Worked another few hours, and again enjoyed learning more about why schools must get on-board with allowing social media in thier schools. I am afraid that those courageous schools who are allowing this, and are teaching their students to act the part of a digital citizen, are passing our students by on this technology superhighway idea. Better quit putting up roadblocks, and help our kiddos know how to navigate in a world which is likely to be here the rest of their lives.
Can you imagine that the Internet will ever go away? And yes, I do believe that students can't be turned loose to use these social media tools without our guidance, anymore than my dad would have allowed me to drive that 3-speed 1972 pickup truck in 1976 without giving me some guidance on how to shift gears, and use the clutch without ruining the truck and running into a phone pole. Glad he didn't just tell me "You can't drive because you might make bad decisions." He taught me how! Let's teach them how!
Just Dee ranting, and now I'm off to buy a baby gift for a sweet baby named Madelin.
